Description

Boston and Washington DC are vibrant cities with many exciting attractions for us to visit. But like most large urban centers, many residents live with day to day economic and social challenges and rely on not for profit agencies to help them navigate their daily challenges. We work with remarkable organizations and truly make a difference, while experiencing college campus life and having a great time as well!

The goal of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to provide a positive and enriching space to encourage youth as they grow. We join Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston for 3 days to play an active role in all areas of the club it is remarkable how quickly our participants become role models to the children, helping the club achieve its goals of providing a safe environment for programs in character development, health and life skills, arts, sports and recreation.

With a proud history of helping for 109 years, the Boston Rescue Mission assists homeless and disadvantaged women, men and families towards self-sufficiency by providing basic life necessities such as food and shelter as well as social service programs. For 2 days, our group will help prepare and serve food, sort donations in the warehouse, and assist with daily operations.

* Boston Adventure and Touring Highlights

Stay at Boston University and take advantage of its athletic facilities. Explore Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, Boston Common, and Harvard Square. Cycle the Freedom Trail to visit landmarks of the American Revolution. Travel back to the future while zorbing, the latest adventure craze rolling in a giant rubber ball. Enjoy the famous Blue Man Group!

* Ocean City Adventure and Touring Highlights

Enjoy two days at Ocean City where we explore the boardwalk, take a jet boat adventure, and chill at the beach before heading to the nation's capital for our meaningful service opportunities.

* Washington, DC Service Partners and Projects

Seabury Resources for Aging has been providing personalized services and affordable housing options for seniors in greater Washington, DC since 1924. The organization relies on over 2,000 volunteers to achieve its mission of helping seniors age with independence and dignity. We assist members of this community for a day through yard work, house cleaning, and painting and learn greatly from our intergenerational exchanges.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington provides us an additional opportunity to help children while deepening our understanding of the challenges facing youth without safe homes or role models. Your 3 days here and relations

Get a preview of college life on campus at American University. Visit trendy Georgetown and check out its unique shops. Admire the Capital from atop the Washington Monument and explore the Smithsonian. Take a trip to Baltimore Harbor and catch a game at Camden Yards if the Orioles are in town. Be thrilled at Six Flags America while riding the Apocalypse, their newest roller coaster that travels at 55 miles-per-hour and then cool off at Hurricane Harbor in one of the world's largest wave pools.

Qualifications

Participants on our community service programs should be prepared to work as a team. You are committing yourself not only to hard work on service days (from 6-8 hours) but also to your fellow volunteers and those we will be assisting. In sharing this rewarding experience, you are guaranteed to form lasting friendships and will no doubt take away much more than you give. You will receive a certificate of completion recognizing 30-80 hours (depending on the program) of service and listing projects accomplished.

We have teamed up with the renowned International House School, centrally located just steps from Plaza Cataluna, to bring you exciting courses from Creative Writing and International Business to Spanish Language, and SAT prep with Princeton Review.
