Description

With over 300 coral fringed islands, famous barrier reef, exotic white sandy beaches, clear warm water, and gorgeous sunsets, you will know you are indeed in a tropical paradise. However even more beautiful is the most delightful, friendly, and warm Fijians who greet us and welcome us into their communities. And despite the tropical beauty, the country is still economically third world and poverty is significant. We will enjoy many cultural exchanges through service learning and on our adventures that we trust indeed it is the people who will touch your lives even more than the magnificent setting.

Service

Koroipita is a small village established to help local Fijians get out of the slums of Fiji and into homes complete with a kitchen house, a bathroom, electricity, and clean running water. Koroipita has been able to eliminate unbearable living conditions for low income earners who have in the past been homeless by building "model townships" with the benefit of dedicated volunteers to build the homes that will change resident's lives forever. Our 3 days there will allow us to make a significant contribution.

*Bounty Island, Mamanuca Islands

Service

Led by our Marine biologist we will participate in preserving the reef by farming and coral planting as was seen on The Amazing Race. We will clean the reef, remove its predators and learn techniques to determine the health of the reef. We will also assist in the breeding project and release of Hawks Bill, Green, Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles

* Adventure

After exploring popular Port Denarau, we cruise the deep blue waters to enchanting Bounty Island where our hosts greet us by song upon arrival. Kayak, sail, or snorkel in this marine reserve from your beachfront bure (cabin). Swim in the pool, play volleyball and enjoy the lively evening entertainment.

* Rakiraki, North Coast Of Viti Levu

Service

Our days at the Malake Island Village School will be filled with many laughs as we bring games, sports, songs and fun cultural programing to the local students. We help them in their English proficiency and enjoy friendly soccer games.

* Adventure

We travel the Kings Road, on the northern coast of Viti Levu, to the beautiful Volivoli Resort. We travel by boat to Malake Island for our two days of service and use our resort base for beach time, snorkeling and banana boating.

* Nausautoka Village
Cultural Immersion

On our way to Suva, we visit this village and are warmly greeted with the now familiar welcome ceremony. We enjoy a Meke group performance (native singing and dancing), before they show us how to make our own bamboo rafts for a river racing adventure.

* Suva, The Capital City
Service

The Samabula Home for the Elderly is also called "The Home for the Abandoned" as the residents are either without children to care for them or their children cannot afford to care. It is run by the Fijian government and sleeps approximately 80 people. On our visit to the Samabula Senior Citizen Home, we will read to residents, perform a variety show for them, and conduct arts projects as therapy. We will also paint or upkeep the home as needed. Their smiles and expressions of gratitude will be a valuable parting gift that we cherish.

* Adventure

Explore the area with hiking trails in Colo-I-Suva Forest Park, swimming in river pools, and a high ropes course and zipline for an adrenaline rush.

* The Coral Coast Finale

From the capital, we head to the southern coast, and our farewell grand finale at Hideaway Resort. Enjoy an incredible fire walking show, our visit to an Arts Village, kayaking, and beach volleyball. At our final beach bonfire, we reflect on the contributions we have made and in turn the influence of Fijian culture on ourselves.
