Windsurf Instructor Basic Traineeship
Location: Australia: Sydney; Greece: Vassiliki
Term: Throughout the year
Dates: May to September
Description
The Windsurf Instructor Basic Traineeship leads to qualification as an RYA Windsurfing Instructor (Start Windsurfing). The course is designed to allow maximum time for developing personal skills on the water and it is suitable for beginners and early intermediates.
See also our Windsurf Instructor Pro Traineeship which matches the Basic course and follows it with six weeks of post-qualification professional development. We also offer Dinghy Sailing/Windsurf Basic and Pro Traineeships, which combine windsurfing with dinghy sailing - or check out the Surf/Windsurf/Lifesaving combos.
The first two weeks of the Windsurf Instructor Basic Traineeship provide intensive foundation training including personal performance coaching and first aid. The next two weeks are the core of the skill-building programme. You windsurf every day under the guidance of expert coaches, who guarantee to improve your performance on the water.
Finally you enter two weeks of instructor training, focusing on the coaching skills needed to inspire beginners. You will develop an imaginative approach to teaching safe and efficient windsurfing, as well as the theory that underlies it. We make sure you have time to learn and practice the necessary techniques before being examined.
To gain the instructor qualification you will need to demonstrate RYA Intermediate Non-planning windsurfing ability, good communication skills, and understanding of RYA training, in-depth theory knowledge, group management ability, safety awareness and an effective coaching style.
The traineeship is based at Club Vass at Vassiliki, Lefkas, Greece. Budget accommodation is at our own Fish House, simple tourist rooms in the village. Superior accommodation is at Andromeda, between the village and Club Vass. For more information on the training location, windsurfing equipment and accommodation, use the Destinations link.
If you travel with Flying Fish, you fly on Sunday from London or Manchester to Preveza.
