Description

The rainforests of Brazil have evolved over millions of years resulting in an ecosystem that is as complex and awe inspiring as it is delicate and easily disrupted. Each organism exists in its particular niche and fulfils a role that supports the continuing existence of other organisms; because of this, any damage to the habitat of a specific species can have devastating knock-on effects. See the giant sumauma trees, and the mogna trees which have provided elegant mahogany to the world for centuries. Admire delicate water lilies, and other exotic flowers, which are fed on by otherworldly birds of paradise. These species are only a few of the millions that exist in harmony in this incredible natural resource.

* What Will I Be Doing?

At the project we carry out research in four defined priority areas - the socio-economic context of the forest, income-generating alternatives, natural resource management and forest restoration. These areas are designed to meet the needs of the local area. Biological surveys are also carried out in order to understand the environment better. As well as this there also community, education and even medicinal plant projects in operation from time to time.

Life on the project presents a unique opportunity. We have a philosophy that encourages flexibility, resourcefulness and responsibility in our everyday work. The goal is to conserve this wonderful environment and value local community members and their traditional knowledge. In accordance with the projects mission statement, we work with the local community to make the conservation of the forest more attractive than its destruction.

If this is your first time doing conservation work, don't worry! It will only take a short while for you to feel totally at home on camp and confident with the conservation work. Although the work is intense you'll find that living in such a beautiful and inaccessible environment alongside friends who share your passion for conservation will be the experience of a lifetime!
