Description
GVI has been invited by the Seychelles government and local NGOs to assist their priority conservation programs on Curieuse Island, including tortoise conservation programs, seasonal turtle nesting research and in water turtle surveys, Coco de Mer palms census, seasonal endangered endemic bird monitoring, habitat management and National Park conservation and rehabilitation; together with additional training and assistance to our partner organisations.
This program gives you the opportunity to live and work in one of the most stunning places on earth. Based on a tropical island, next to a picture postcard beach, you will work alongside GVI and local partner staff. Weekends allow the opportunity to explore nearby islands, beaches and forests, the coral reefs and culture of the Seychelles.

How this expedition makes a difference:
GVI, working alongside our partners, are the leading marine data collection organisation in the country. We assist our local partners to complete projects, research and conservation initiatives that they do not have the additional resources or manpower to do. We collect data on the turtle populations (nesting turtles and in water snorkel surveys), assist with the day to day conservation of the tortoise populations on the island, anti-poaching patrols, the breeding program, local environmental education programs, and periodically with population surveys for other endemic species, including the famous Coco de Mer palm. Our partners often require additional manpower to assist with one-off projects, ranging from population surveys to reforestation, to research station and trail maintenance.
Highlights
Living in one of the most visually stunning countries in the world, working alongside local partner staff, swimming in the Indian Ocean at the end of hard days work, exploring the other islands of the Seychelles, enjoying snorkelling and seeing turtles in the water, trying a fun dive, looking out for incredible 'mega-fauna' in the area, such as whale sharks, manta rays, and dolphins from the boat; exploring National Parks, visiting breeding areas for the hawksbill and green turtle, and endangered giant tortoises; having an amazing and unique adventure amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
