Description
Project Hawai'i provides teens with the opportunity to make a difference over their summer break by mentoring young children and helping them through their camp activities. Working along side the homeless children will help them to develop leadership and mentoring skills. Teens will be immersed in the camp activities and helping to teach their camp buddies personal hygiene, life skills and social awareness.
This is a mini version of our 4-week long program. Specifically targeting the sleepover session and gives the most service experience. Teens will earn 80 hours in this short tour.
Teens will arrive on the island of Hawai'i at the Hilo International Airport and greeted with a flower lei by their group leader and the other teens whom arrived at the beginning of the tour. After meeting their new friends and settling in, the teens will being their voyage up to the retreat style cabins. Along the way teens will stop at the beautiful Akaka Falls and try their hand at rope swinging and enjoy a lunch in the tropical jungles. Arriving at the camp just before dinner, teens will help the little one's pack into their cabins and settle in. Then down to the BBQ pavilion for roasting marshmallows with their camp buddies.
This camp is 5 days of fun activities and educational program to help guide your camp buddy on a path to success. Some of the activities include glamour night for the little girls and race car building for the boys, water wars, monster movie night, play presentation and so much more.
The cabins are nestled high on the mountain in Honoka'a with beautiful star filled skies and tropical nature paths. Clean refreshing air, and serene setting makes for one of the most beautiful restful places on the islands.
During the 5 day camp, we know that teens need their break from the little one's so they will take off to learn Hula lessons, hike sacred lands, swim in the black sands beach and enjoy a Hawaiian heritage tour of Waipio Valley. Teens will also have social time in town over Starbucks and lunch to talk about all their little camp buddies.
After our sleepover camp ends, the teens will be touring the other side of the island for more beach exploration, swimming at Honu (turtle) beach and visiting the famous attractions of Ali'i Dr. before heading home.
Just to briefly touch on the cabin sleepover life...these are well equipped cabins with full bath to allow teens to shower or freshen up anytime, as well there is a full kitchen stocked with teens snacking needs. It is NOT camping, we are in a retreat style nature reserve.
