Description

This Kung Fu Academy offers one of the best environments in the world to learn more about this historic martial art. Based in the mountainous region of Fujian Province, South East China, you will study directly from some of the best trained Masters found in China.

Chinese Martial Arts is a term relating to hundreds of styles native to China. Kung Fu and Wushu are the most popular Chinese names used for Chinese Martial Arts.

There are many different forms of Chinese Martial arts taught at the academy including Shaolin, Wushu, Sanda, Taiji, Xingyi, Bagua, White Crane (white crane is a local Fujian style and quite rare) and Baji. At the academy you can specify which form of Kung Fu you would like to learn or improve. The amount you learn will be dependent upon your current level of skills and how long you wish to attend the academy for.

Please note: Being able to specify a particular form will depend on numbers of other participants wanting to learn the same form and so cannot be guaranteed.

Many students who have been studying for 1-3 months have been able to cut a brick in two using their bare hands by the end of their stay!

Highlights

The land that China occupies has been home to ancient civilizations dating back thousands of years, making it one of the longest occupied areas in the world. They also have the longest continuous writing system and the Four Great Inventions of Ancient China - paper, the compass, gunpowder and printing.

China was ruled over by Dynasties until 1912, when the Qing dynasty became the last in a very long line. At this point China became a Republic and began to develop into the country that we would recognize today. In 1949, Mao Zedong came to power at the head the Chinese Communist Party and introduced policies such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, which left the Education system and the economy in tatters. Mao, however, is still a figure of great reverence- just have a look at the queue coming out of his mausoleum in Tiananmen Square!

China's rapid development in the 1990s began after Mao's death and has made China the world's next super power. Although it is modernizing rapidly, many aspects of the ancient civilizations remain in the form of temples, the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors and much more. Age-old practices are much more alive amongst the rural farming communities, who have in general missed out on the development seen by the bigger cities. In that respect China is full of opposites- yin and yang you could say! Saying that though, you'll still find the traditional Chinese dragons prancing about all over the country when New Year rolls around!
