Accommodation And Food In Rio De Janeiro:
Accommodation is situated in the Flamingo region of Rio - just a hop, skip and a jump away from famous Copacabana beach! This is a great place to be as you will be only 3 minutes away from the metro station, opposite the Catete Palace and you will be able to visit Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue with great ease.

Rooms are available as dorms, singles and doubles. If you have a preference, please be sure to let us know at the time of booking and we can make the necessary arrangements for you. All rooms have their own bathroom and individual cupboard with a key for security.

Past volunteers have regarded eating out as one of the highlights of living in South America, and an essential part of Brazilian culture! Because of this, the price of your placement includes your breakfast but for dinner, you'll get the chance to venture out and sample some of the fabulous food which Rio is famous for.

For breakfast in the hotel you can expect a feast of natural fruits and juices (try the acai - a delicious berry to sprinkle on your granola cereal), coffee, milk, bread, cheese, ham, butter, jams and sweet cakes (popular in Brazil for breakfast) amongst other things - so you certainly wont be leaving on an empty stomach! You will be allowed to use the kitchen facilities whenever it is not being used by the hotel staff.

The Brazilian passion for food is reflected in the numbers of people you will see spending long, balmy evenings dining in restaurants and al fresco in the city's buzzing streets, feasting on fare from the traditional Feijoada (black beans and pork stew) or Mariscada (seafood stew) to modern global cuisine rivalling that of any other international city! If youre partial to tipple, you might like to indulge in a caipiranha, Brazils traditional carnival drink made with lime and cachaça, best enjoyed in the sunshine with a churrasco, which is a Brazilian barbeque of rice, meats and - of course - salsa!

The cost of eating out in Rio can vary from a just a couple of pounds up to a couple of hundred pounds! This is one city where you certainly wont have any trouble eating well on a tight budget - there are some very inexpensive options available and you'll dine out handsomely on about 4 GBP (6 USD); although you could be lucky and get away with spending even less and still be eating well. The trick is to keep your eyes peeled for the bargain eateries offering specials such as buffet lunches. Also don't forget the supermarkets are a good option and are comparable in standard to those found back home.

"The schools main objective is to keep children in off the streets, so it provides activities throughout the day and in the evenings in the hope that children will want to stay all day, every day..... and they do! On top of this, children receive a nutritious meal at lunchtime, which is usually their only meal of the entire day. The enthusiasm from the principal and staff has the most incredible effect on the children - despite their circumstances and the daily hardships that they face, they simply love school!! You will be welcomed with open arms to teach whatever you can, including drama, sports, music, art, IT. Qualifications

No qualifications or previous experience are necessary, just a good dose of enthusiasm! Everyone is welcome on a Travellers programme, whether gap year, undergraduate, on a career break - or even retired! From 17 years old upwards, and all nationalities. This placement would suit teaching enthusiasts who want to make a real difference, want first-hand experience of a different culture and who have initiative.

Full support from the moment of booking and throughout your placement to your return home. There are support staff 24/7 in all our destinations worldwide and a 24 hour emergency international telephone line direct to the Head Office. All meals are provided, unless otherwise stated. Accommodation is provided (whether a rented house, a hotel/hostel, homestay, apartment or flat).

You'll be met at the nearest airport on your arrival by our in-country manager who will take you to your accommodation and give you a full induction into the area. He/she will also be on call 24/7 and you'll see them frequently.

Pre-departure you'll receive comprehensive information about every aspect of your placement and necessary preparations, ranging from what to pack, to visa information, to what to do on your weekend travel in the country. Your safety, well being and happiness throughout your placement are our primary concerns and we will keep in touch with you throughout. International flights not included.
