Description

Volunteer in South Africa on our Cheetah Conservation project. This volunteer project aims to help in the conservation of the Cheetah in South Africa by helping out with the day to day care of the animals and helping to educate the local community and also foreigners.

The cheetah, the world's fastest land animal is now on the WWF endangered species list. This is due to threats like loss of habitat and human intrusion allied with loss of genetic variation amongst the Cheetah prides.

There are also a number of Anotolian Sheep dogs at the center who you will also be looking after.

Only people who care, as informed volunteers, can save the African Cheetah from its extinction.

Highlights

Before starting the volunteer work itself, you may need to know a bit more about this specific project and the African Cheetah. A small induction is given to all the volunteers, where you have time to rest, to get to know the project a bit more and have a town orientation.

The work will initially consist of:
* Preparation of food for the Cheetahs
* Taking care of the Anatolian dogs
* Hosting the project's guests, informing them about the project and the cheetahs in general
* Cleaning up the feeding area and the holding enclosures
* Depending on your involvement and progress, after 2 weeks you may be introduced to the cheetahs. If you listen to the rangers and learn what they are teaching you and have a mature attitude towards the animals you will be granted access. The amount of time that you will spend with the cheetahs depends on the relationship that you build with each of them.

You are expected to work 7 to 8 hours a day and you get 2 free days per week.

WAVA's Mission Statement

WAVA's Responsible Travel policy is its mission statement. It's not an ideology. It is not a cast-iron set of rigid guidelines and procedures. Rather, it is a spectrum of principles and concepts that promote co-operation and learning not only by those in the London office, but also with all other parties involved - travellers, partners and host communities - ensuring each can mutually benefit. We do our best to understand our travellers' needs, responsibly preparing them to have great experiences, and we produce content that accurately informs our travellers of what they can expect to encounter when abroad.
